A more appropriate title for this third installment in the latest Planet of the Apes reboot would be War for the Writers of the First Two Films, whose absence is very apparent in this sequel, which has our apes in an all-out battle against humans for survival.

It isn’t so much a war, however, as it is an extremely over-simplified morality play in which all apes are good and all humans who speak are bad. And instead of the complex characters and emotional moments that made the first two films so enjoyable this time we are left with Woody Harrelson as a cartoonish villain and a lame Jar Jar Binks knockoff for weak comic relief, and an ending that feels as random as it does slapped together.
