When rude socialite Joanna Stayton (Goldie Hawn) falls off her yacht and gets amnesia, Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell), a widowed carpenter unfairly stiffed on a job by her the day before, gets revenge by claiming her as his working class wife… and mother of his four rowdy young sons. Director Garry Marshall injects loads of laughs, and charm, into this cute, crowd-pleasing screwball romantic comedy that, over the years, has become a compulsive “must see” cult classic, with Hawn’s deadpan delivery of quotable one-liners, onscreen chemistry with real life partner Russell, a fun supporting cast (Kathrine Helmond, Edward Herrmann and Roddy McDowell), and a joyously silly score.
