The Reel Review
When a group of high schoolers stumble across a video game version of the original Jumanji board game, they are transported into the jungle adventure game as the avatars they chose in this lighthearted, entertaining spin on the original 1995 film. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan (Oculus, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) all fuel the immensely fun gigglefest, but it is Jack Black, as the unlikely avatar of the social media obsessed, and oh-so-put-upon popular and pretty Bethany, that provides the biggest belly laughs. Director Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) even weaves into the story a sweet message about self confidence and teamwork, resulting in a surprisingly cool and immensely satisfying ending.
