In an era of sci-fi flicks brimming with mind-numbing CGI effects to overcompensate for flimsy storytelling, this clever film stands out as something truly special. An unassuming employee at an internet search engine wins a week at its reclusive CEO’s mountain getaway, where he is asked to determine whether the CEO’s Terminator-esque A.I. creation possesses self awareness. Don’t let the slow moving story fool you – solid performances, a gradually eerie setting, and effects so minimal they are actually effective, results in a sci-fi movie reminiscent of the classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Well done.
