The Reel Review
Charlize Theron reunites with director Jason Reitman (Young Adult) in this clever dramedy about a mother of three, rescued from overwhelming loneliness and post-partum depression when a lifesaving night nanny (Mackenzie Davis) arrives to help her take care of her newborn infant… and perhaps more importantly, her. While the ambitious, twist-filled ode to motherhood from Diablo Cody (Juno) gets a bit clunky and dark in its final act, Theron (who packed on 50 pounds for the role) and Davis (Blade Runner 2049) deliver exceptionally raw performances, giving a refreshingly honest perspective on motherhood that mothers EVERYWHERE will appreciate.
