The Reel Review
An engaging and throughly entertaining remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic Western about a pig-headed girl with pigtails seeking revenge for her father’s killing by hiring a hard drinking U.S. marshall to go after her father’s killer into the Indian Nations. The Western captures the harshness and brutality of life in America in the late 1800s, speckled with a good dose of the Coen brothers’ trademark humor and beautiful sweeping vistas. Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfield are both excellent, as their characters encounter opportunities to test their “grit.”
