The Reel Review
After the child of an American expat family in Mumbai, India dies in a tragic car accident, their well-meaning housekeeper reaches out to the suicidal mother, telling her of a Hindu temple in the jungle where she can communicate with her dead son behind a closed door, so long as she doesn’t open that door. The Walking Dead’s Sarah Wayne Callies is our mom who has trouble following directions in this thriller, that, despite the slew of jump scares, stereotypes and other predictable horror tropes, features strong enough performances by Callies, Jeremy Sisto (HBO’s Six Feet Under) as her frustrated husband and Suchitra Pillai (Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Shiva) as the housekeeper, to makes this well-produced creeper a compelling, entertaining ride.
