The Reel Review
Easily one of, if not THE best movie of 2014, this is the jaw-dropping and heartbreaking true story of British mathematician Alan Turing, whose invention (a precursor to the modern day computer) broke the code of the infamous Nazi German “Enigma” message encryption device, changing the outcome of World War II, saving millions of lives and altering the course of history.
The film weaves together this incredible story with poignant flashbacks of Turing’s persecuted personal life, heightened by Benedict Cumberbatch’s Oscar-worthy portrait of a very difficult, complex, and deservedly self-important figure. Keira Knightley, is, as always, top notch as well. Outstanding.
