The Reel Review
A series of unusual events leads a group of high school students to suspect something isn’t quite right with the faculty at their school. They discover they are being turned into aliens, in this horror/thriller.
With a cast that includes Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Josh Hartnett, Salma Hayek, Bebe Neuwirth and Famke Jansen, The Faculty is a totally fun, star-studded high school hybrid of The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The plot is every kid’s fantasy – that their teachers can’t possibly be humans and instead have been turned into aliens. Add to that the classic irony – the students have to do an illegal drug to prove they themselves aren’t infected.
With a script rewritten by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse, Alita: Battle Angel), The Faculty is frequently hokey. But clever dialogue, a fast-paced plot and a sense of subversive campiness keeps it an immensely entertaining, twisty good time.
