The Reel Review

B-

Perspective is everything. Such is the message of this bizarre thriller starring Christopher Plummer as an elderly widower turned Nazi hunter whose actions are orchestrated by fellow Holocaust survivor Martin Landau (in one of his final roles) from the nursing home where they both live. The catch? Plummer has dementia, which means he must refer frequently to his notes from Landau (reminiscent of the 2001 film Memento) to remind himself what he is doing and why. To say the off-the-rails-but-intriguing story is farfetched is an understatement, and Plummer’s talents certainly deserved better, but his portrait of an aging dementia sufferer is compelling, with each unlikely scenario more surreal than the last. And then there is that ending. Wow.
