The Reel Review

B+

Cue the waterworks! Yes, this sugary sweet weepfest of a movie is about as predictable as they come, but exuberant, heartfelt performances by Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Tom Claflin (The Hunger Games films) lend credibility to this crowd-pleaser about a relationship between a young quadriplegic and his cheery hired companion that blossoms into an unexpected romance.

Although the plot, about the young man wanting to end his life rather than live with his gradually deteriorating condition, features a frustratingly controversial message, the romance feels genuine. It also features a solid supporting cast – Janet McTeer, Brendan Coyle (Bates from Downton Abbey) and Clarke’s Game of Thrones co-star Charles Dance.
