The Reel Review
This true story, starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and yes, Google Earth, is about a young man trying to find his hometown in rural India, more than 25 years after a mishap resulted in him being separated from his family and eventually adopted by a family in Australia.
The first half of the film is an Iliad-type journey of the young boy’s heartbreaking separation – the story’s second half, with Patel as the emotionally-tortured adult and Kidman as his loving adoptive mother, languishes at times, despite their compelling performances. The sob-inducing tearjerker of an ending, however, makes this film a must see.
