The Reel Review
Amy Schumer tackles body image and self confidence in this romantic comedy about a regular gal at a cosmetics company who, after a head injury during spin class, is convinced she’s beautiful, and starts living her life with a newfound sense of confidence. The plot is pretty predictable and the jokes, some of which do elicit big belly laughs, are standard Schumer. What IS surprising, however, is how hilarious and on point Michelle Williams is as the baby doll-voiced cosmetics executive – truly hysterical. The screenwriting duo of Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (How to Be Single, He’s Just Not That Into You) wrap their directorial debut with a nice bow – the message that self-confidence is very beautiful… and even sexy.
