The Reel Review
This disaster thriller is based on the historic 1952 real life rescue of the crew of an oil tanker that split in half during a gigantic storm off the coast of Cape Cod, which to this day is STILL the Coast Guard’s largest and most daring small boat rescue in U.S. history. I must admit, I was skeptical that Disney would sugarcoat the story and it IS very sappy and old fashioned, but solid performances by Chris Pine and Casey Affleck, along with some pretty harrowing special effects and a heartfelt story (yeah, I choked up a couple of times), culminates in an extremely deserving tribute to an incredible rescue.
