The Reel Review

This film feels like the checklist of a movie studio focus group: Hollywood’s hottest leading man (Chris Pratt) and hottest leading woman (Jennifer Lawrence) tossed into a promising science fiction story with awesome special effects. But they forgot one thing – a decent story. It starts off well enough, as our stars awaken 90 years too soon from their futuristic deep space journey to colonize a new world, slowly discovering that they and their still slumbering fellow 5000+ passengers are in grave danger. But by the time we reach the film’s nonsensical third act the plot more resembles something conceived by a bunch of third graders hyped up on Adderall. Opportunity missed.
